Architectural Services

Drystone Studio is a small creative practice focused on the pursuit of artistic and architectural projects in a way that is flexible, hands-on, and as focused on the process as the product.  I offer a full range of architectural services.  Following is a summary of that range; services can be tailored as needed for a given project.

Predesign / Feasibility

My goal is to help clients get to a confident go/no-go decision as quickly and economically as possible.  This entails a three-part approach to exploring the constructibility, regulatory and budgetary feasibility of a project before committing to a design process.  I advocate for early collaboration with engineers, contractors and other key players as needed to gather information and arrive at that decision point.

Ideation / Visualization

At the outset of the some projects there is little more than a desire for change, in others the desired changes are known but just need articulation.  The particular challenge for the architect is to assemble intangible and ambiguous ideas, and through visual language, synthesize and communicate those ideas to those who shape built form.  I utilize a range of tools: sketching, drawing and modeling, both hand and digital, to explore and capture ideas.

Coordination

The success of any project hinges on effective communication and coordination between team members. 

Documentation / Permitting

A thorough set of construction drawings will effectively capture the ideas born in the design phases; it will also minimize conflict and omissions that lead to delays and cost impacts during construction. I have the capacity to produce complete construction and permitting documents, then either support the owner or act as the owner's agent through the permitting process.

Construction

A positive and collaborative relationship between owner, builder and designer is key to a successful project.  During construction I am available to interpret drawings, help solve challenges that arise, and support the owner with objective feedback on the work.
